QUADRATICS
FEATURES OF A PARABOLA
Vertex:The Vertex of a parabola is the point on the axis of symmetery and the optimal value. It is the point where parabola is at its maximum or minimum. The optimal value helps us find the vertex.
Axis of Symmetry: The axis of symmetry is a vertical line that passes through the vertex of the parabola and divides the parabola into two equal halves. The axis of symmetry also passes through the midpoint of any horizontal line. To find the Axis of Symmetry we need to add our 2 X-intercepts and divide it by 2.
Zeroes: The zeroes are called the x-intercepts or roots. For a Quadratic function they can either be 0, 1 or 2. We need to make the Quadratic function equal to zero find our x values.
The Optimal Value: Its the value of the y-coordinate of the vertex. To find the optimal value you need to sub in your axis of symmetry into the orginal equation.
Y-intercept: Where the graph crosses the y-axis.
